IRAN WAR: New Gas Field Powers Economic Resistance

Iran announces a new gas field discovery and allegedly shuts down a UK power plant for 4 days.

Wars aren't fought only on traditional battlefields with guns and bombs. Sometimes they are fought on balance sheets. Sometimes it’s not a matter of military escalation, but instead strategic insulation.

Iranian national media reported today on a new gas field in Fars Province with:

• 7.5 trillion cubic feet total gas

• 5.7 trillion cubic feet recoverable

• Sweet gas (low sulphur → cheaper processing)

• Significant condensate volumes

• Value: tens of billions of dollars

• Equivalent to ~15 years of South Pars Phase 1 output

This means that, amid increased economic sanctions, Iran quietly strengthens its economic resilience, energy leverage, and wartime endurance. Although not a panacea for all of Trump's latest economic sanctions, it does mean that if Trump intends to impose an Eric Geddes-style economic squeeze on Iran, it will be some time before the pips are heard to squeak!

Iranians linked to UK power plant 4-day shutdown

Meanwhile, across the pond, the Brits play down a four-day closure of a power plant attributed to “Iranian state‑linked hackers”. According to The Telegraph, the impact on the grid was minuscule, given it was a small backup plant. However, the cyber attack matters because it is the first time a foreign hacker has succeeded in shutting down a British power plant.  UK Officials refuse to say exactly which power plant it was and deny any risk to the wider UK energy system.
